I'm going up to town today - Harrow-on-the-Hill in London to be precise - to see some people at JATO Dynamics. If I tell you that their HQ is called 'Carspecs House', you'll get a sense of what they're about. JATO is a commercial partner of ours and we sell JATO data - see link below. I'm partly going along to find out what's new there and also to explore ideas for presenting their data on just-auto. It has been a long term goal of mine to get an 'automotive data area' going on just-auto, but that's easier said than done (I've had discussions with all of the major data vendors over the years).
To digress a tad, Harrow-on-the-Hill evokes some memories for me. It is the home of a famous private school - no, I didn't go there - but it is also the place where I began my post-University career (ie first 'proper job') as a trainee accountant working for the London Borough of Harrow back in 1983. I still grimace at the thought of my very first day at work. A few days earlier, myself and some friends had got in to a bit of a disagreement with some other fellows at a fast food outlet (Kentucky Fried Chicken) in the town of Stevenage, where I come from. A subsequent brawl in the street left me with a split lip and a black eye. I must have made a great impression on day one. And I still won't go near a 'bargain bucket'.
I'm starting to get a small idea of the scale of things here in China, but really, I'm only scratching the surface of this vast country....
