Been chatting with some people who are close to developments in the auto industry in China. The subject of China Brilliance cropped up. There was a strong feeling coming through that the contrast between MG Rover's approach and BMW's could not be greater. BMW I was told, went through the 'proper' channels - the government authorities for instance - and was very methodical. But MGR dealt solely and directly with one or two individuals on the Brilliance board and was ultimately let down. Hard to know what's going on exactly - and MGR still puts on a brave public face - but look at it from the Brilliance end. Put effort into a partnership with BMW or MG Rover? That's a toughie - I don't think.
