Blog: Dave LeggettImports to Japan by brand

Dave Leggett | 6 October 2003

I've just come across some import brand data for Japan that's worth knowing about. It's published by the importers' association in Japan - JAIA. The data looks very like the data I used to regularly see from JAIA in hardcopy form fifteen years ago. How little some things change. VW, Mercedes-Benz and BMW in front. Volumes generally pretty paltry. Share of imports in total vehicles sold? Well, this data is first half of fiscal year (April through September). A look at the JAMA data (http://e450r.jama.or.jp/e_press//index.html) shows all vehicle sales Jan-Aug of this year at 3,902,614 units, with imports at 178,164 units. That's an import share of 4.6%. Yes, as I say, paltry.
