Blog: Dave LeggettHyundai's high ambitions

Dave Leggett | 12 February 2004

We've just published an interesting article from AW Knowledge's Gareth Davies about Hyundai. It is clearly a company on a bit of a roll and it's had quite a big boost since it acquired Kia. One element of the Hyundai-Kia Group's strategy is quite intriguing: make Hyundai the conservative brand and Kia the more upscale and experimental one - although an extra luxury brand is likely too. For those who remember the white-wall tyred Kia Pride, that sounds like a tall order. And cheap'n'cheerful current models like the Rio and Sedona don't exactly scream quality. But Kia is serious. Of the next six Kia models scheduled for launch, not one is aimed at the lower end of the market.
