Blog: Dave LeggettFord Focus for Turkey?

Dave Leggett | 1 December 2004

An industry source tells me that Ford Otosan in Turkey is trying very hard to get Ford of Europe to approve a new production line to make the Focus (currently Ford makes only Transit and Transit Connect LCVs in Turkey). I understand the proposal has not yet been approved, but if it is there would likely be sizeable shipments of the car to western Europe. For the benefit of anyone who lives on Mars, Turkey is a relatively low-cost place to manufacture and its exports to the EU are tariff free. Where would that leave western European Focus production in Valencia and Saarlouis I wonder?
