I'm hearing and reading lots of positive stuff about the Fiat Panda that has just become 2004 European Car of the Year. Making small cars is traditionally what Fiat does best - past attempts to mix it in the D-segment with cars like the Marea always looked unconvincing. COTY has arrived at an important time for beleaguered Fiat Auto - it can't do any harm at all and may help it to much-needed market success. Fiat 'minding the knitting' and getting its act together at last. Also, I think Fiat will come to view the tried and trusted Panda name as a lucky escape from the initially preferred but ruled out for legal reasons Gingo.
