The smokey old Trabant was in many ways a symbol of what was wrong with the way manufacturing industries worked in Eastern Europe back in the bad old days of the Cold War. But there is an enduring nostalgia for the car and there have been various reports of a possible renaissance for the car.
The latest to surface - which you may have heard of - involves an electric motor powered version. A model-making firm in Germany is hoping to have a prototype concept ready for the Frankfurt Motor Show. They appear to have had their heads turned by the runaway commercial success of the 1/87 scale model of the old Trabant. Could an updated version really work in 1/1? Well, good luck to them.
There is already a scale model of the 'newTrabi' and you can even make your own cut out model.
