People often say to me, "Dave, in your job you must get the chance to drive lots of cars...". Actually, no. We do get invited to car launches but we're an online industry publication and that puts us pretty low on the list of candidates for general press cars. The car companies' preferences are to hit the consumer press, which is fair enough. And we don't do extensive car reviews either. Which is fine. You know what you get with just-auto and I don't want people thinking they can buy cars through just-auto or confusing our proposition with the consumer media. Mind you, I've just sent a copy of my driving license over to the SMMT for their annual journalists' driving day at Millbrook Proving Ground. Lots of cars to try out. That really is like being a kid in a sweet shop. Tough job but someone's got to do it.
