Blog: Car sales in China: Great Wall & Geely push Chery out of top 20

The best selling 4x4 by far
Forget the 50,000+ monthly sales for the Wuling Hongguang if you can (more or less its usual total), the big news in last month's vehicle sales numbers for China is the continued rise of two Great Wall and Geely models.
Run your eye down these numbers as I just did, and you'll notice that there is not one Chery Auto model in them. That is a major concern for the company when it has just renewed its best seller, the QQ.
As well as the domination of the sedan and hatchback segments by the Volkswagen brand, one other rising trend emerges: both Geely (Emgrand) and Great Wall (Haval) continue to see strong sales over many months for their higher priced models. And what an achievement for the H6 to outsell the Tiguan and take the title of being China's best selling SUV. Seems that Great Wall's recent decision to make Haval its newly focussed rival for Jeep and Land Rover is already bearing fruit in the home market.
I'm starting to get a small idea of the scale of things here in China, but really, I'm only scratching the surface of this vast country....
