Blog: Burning tyres as French protest

I have to rush out to see GKN in the centre of Paris, but as I leave, French TV is full of three issues: the unemployment rate that has just burst through 3m, images of protesting workers burning tyres on picket lines and the Prime Minister due to address the nation tonight live on television.
All this set against the Paris motor show and it makes for a nervous backdrop to all the shiny models on display.
I'm starting to get a small idea of the scale of things here in China, but really, I'm only scratching the surface of this vast country....
