I'm back from the BBC now and I am about to resume some data crunching for the members' management briefing I am working on concerning the Indian auto industry. The DaimlerChrysler piece that they wanted me for should be aired on Monday morning on BBC World's World Business Report programme. But I've not got a long slot - they wanted me for a couple of pretty tame background questions (why is Kerkorian suing DC and something about the courtroom drama and 'clash of the titans').
They're also trying to interview Mr K for the piece. Should be interesting to see how things unfold next week and thank goodness the proceedings are - hopefully - finally coming to a conclusion.
Does anyone out there watch BBC World? Something to switch to in your hotel room if CNN's relentless pace or the Bloomberg ticker is getting to you? If you do happen to catch the item, perhaps you could let me know whether I appeared to be fully conscious - I nearly fell asleep in the back of the very comfortable and warm Vauxhall Omega on the way to Television Centre. Big Vauxhalls aren't exactly sexy of course, but you do get a lot of car for your money. I noticed that - as is becoming increasingly common here with taxi fleets - it was bi-fuel, running on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as well as petrol (LPG is about half the price of petrol). Just flick a switch to go - imperceptibly - from gas to petrol and vice versa. Right. Back to that spreadsheet.
I'm starting to get a small idea of the scale of things here in China, but really, I'm only scratching the surface of this vast country....
