That story about the €5,000 cost premium on European produced cars due to EU regulations being imposed by Brussels looks like a classic example of the planned leak designed to put pressure on the other side in a negotiating situation - in this case EU regulators. Maybe I'm being excessively cynical, but that headline figure sounds a little absurd to me and like it has been inflated for political reasons. I'd like to know how it was arrived at, but maybe that's missing the point. Perhaps Pischetsrieder et al are virtually guaranteed a more sympathetic hearing now...
