Blog: Automotive News event in Beijing

Looks like I will be going to an Automotive News conference taking place in Beijing next month. There's a good programme and participants also get to visit the FAW/Toyota facility in Tianjin as well as entry to the Beijing auto show on press day. I went to Tianjin Auto Works about ten years ago when the Daihatsu Charade was being made there, so it will be interesting to see how things have changed.
The main highway from Beijing to Tianjin was almost empty in those days, I seem to remember. My taxi driver - hired for the day for about $10 - really caned the Santana and I treated him to what I recall was a pretty good fish lunch (Tianjin is on the coast), the two of us communicating quite happily with barely a word of each other's language.
I'm starting to get a small idea of the scale of things here in China, but really, I'm only scratching the surface of this vast country....
