Blog: Airbus A380 for private use

just-auto contributor Mark Bursa is at the Paris Air Show this week, wearing another of his hats and it's always interesting to see the news that comes out of that show. One thing has caught my eye today. Airbus is saying that someone has placed an order for an A380 - the double-decked 'super jumbo' - for their own private use.
That's quite a purchase when you come to think of it - in a sense, the ultimate gas guzzler if this is viewed as a vehicle primarily for personal transportation (albeit with entourage/small army). It sounds like carbon footprint considerations aren't uppermost in the buyer's mind.
Just imagine what a private conversion to such a huge aircraft might be like. But as the man from 'Plane Stupid' says, and he does have a point, it's "like buying a filthy coal-fired power station just to use to charge up your mobile phone".
I'm starting to get a small idea of the scale of things here in China, but really, I'm only scratching the surface of this vast country....
