With manufacturers increasingly trying to find ways to leverage the heritage of certain cars - Range Rover & Discovery, Fiat 500, (Citroen) DS come to mind - to create new model 'families', Daimler now seems to realise the power of the Gelandewagen's history. The model is now 35 years old, was rebranded as the G-Class a while ago and is to be reinvented as a second generation series later in the decade. That's also the reason why the GLA-Class is so named, and why there wil be GLB, GLC (GLK replacement) GLE and GLS models launched in the future.
