GERMANY: Zetsche optimistic about future
DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche is optimistic about his company's future after the sale of Chrysler.
Speaking to the Berlin-based newspaper, Tagesspiegel, he said: "The next few years will be good."
Zetsche noted that since Chrysler has been separated off the company's stock value has doubled. "A year ago [it] was worth less than EUR35bn and today it's up to around EUR40bn," said Zetsche.
Zetsche also said the company was well-placed to address environmental concerns, thanks to advancements in fuel efficiency.
"At last the answer to the climate problem is technology, and in that we are best placed." He added that achievements with respect to fuel efficiency have not been acknowledged or well communicated.
"At Mercedes, for example, we have reduced fuel consumption by 15% in the last 15 years," said Zetsche.
