The United Auto Workers union lost more than 90,000 members in 2000 as car makers and component suppliers axed production jobs, the Detroit News reported. Citing the UAW's annual financial report, the newspaper said that the Detroit-based union had 671,853 members last year, down 90,586 or 12 percent from 762,439 in 1999.
