RUSSIA: Tyre production triples in January

Tyre production in Russia tripled in January, local sources said today. The news comes on the back of statistics that show Russian vehicle production soared 91.9% year on year to 44,257 units in the month.
Russian news agency Prime-Tass, quoting a report by the Federal State Statistics Service, said January tyre production reached 1.384m.
Truck tyre output rose tenfold to 341,000 while output of agricultural vehicle tyres was up sixfold to 72,900 tyres.
The jump in Russian vehicle output was month was attributed to a significant increase in car output which more than doubled to 41,806 units from 18,177 units in January 2009. Of that total, foreign brand car output in Russia rose 46.9% to 26,340 units while domestic car output rose to 15,466 units from just 280 a year ago.
Russia's vehicle output in 2009 fell 59.7% to 722,102 units.
