CZECH REPUBLIC: Toyota/PSA JV builds car #1m

PSA Peugeot Citroën and Toyota Motor Corporation's joint venture plant in Kolin, Czech Republic - Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile (TPCA) - has built its millionth vehicle.

TPCA president Yasuhiro Takahashi is to present the vehicle - a petrol, red, five-door Citroën C1 - to Kolin mayor Jiri Buric on 13 December.

The plant builds the C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo with three or five doors and a variety of petrol and diesel engines with manual and automated manual transmissions, for sale mainly in Europe.

On 29 November, TPCA began production of updated versions with detail exterior styling changes, improved interiors and lower CO2 emissions.

TPCA, about 35 miles (60km) from Prague, employs 3,500 people in stamping, welding, painting and assembly operations. Engines comes from plants elsewhere in Europe. Investment in the plant totals EUR1.3bn to date.
