Toyota sold 82,500 new vehicles in China in July, up 28.4% year on year, marking a rapid recovery for the company following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March.

The carmaker had logged monthly year on year sales declines in China until June due to the parts shortage caused by the disaster.

This week Toyota's plant in Guangzhou marked production of its millionth vehicle since starting operations in May 2006.

The plant operated by GAC Toyota, a joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile, has total production capacity of 360,000 vehicles a year, including the Yaris, Camry sedan and hybrid.
