Toyota Motor on Wednesday said it sold 64,200 cars in China in July, up just 1% year on year.

The Japanese car maker's China sales in the January-July period totaled 426,600 units, up 23%, Beijing-based Toyota spokesman Hitoshi Yokoyama told the Wall Street Journal.

Yokoyama said Toyota's sales growth had slowed, mirroring the Chinese auto market's general weakness over the past few months, but said the company was "on pace" to achieve its goal of selling 800,000 vehicles for the year.
