According to Teikoku Databank Toyota Motor Corp. was the top earner among Japanese companies in fiscal 1999, with spirited domestic sales outstripping the negative impact of the strong yen on export earnings.

replaced Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT), which plummeted
to 115th place as a result of the 1999 reorganization of the NTT
group of companies, the major credit research agency said.
