Toyota Motor Corporation intends to invest some 300 million euros in its car components factory in Walbrzych in southwest Poland, according to a report carried in the Warsaw Business Journal (WBJ).

The WBJ report says that the aim is to increase production capacity by 300,000 gearshifts and 250,000 engines, produced for Toyota's auto assembly plants in France, Britain, and Turkey, as well as a plant under construction in the Czech Republic (the small car JV with PSA).

Toyota will employ an additional 700 additional workers as part of the investment programme.

"We're slowly regaining a good reputation as a friendly place for foreign investment," Polish Economy Minister Jacek Piechota told the WBJ.

However, the Polish government is under some pressure from the EU to cancel Special Economic Zones (SSE) and the state aid that comes with them, including the one in which the Toyota plant is situated.
