2014 Fiat Idea Adventure

The Fiat Idea, a small minivan that was replaced by the 500L in European markets, is still built in Brazil and has just been given a third facelift.

The Idea is based on the second generation Punto. It was launched in Europe in late 2003, with the Brazilian-made model appearing in June 2004. Since then, there have been two updates for the Betim-built Idea; the first in September 2005 and the second in August 2010.

The latest modifications include a new grille for Attractive and Essence model grades, revised foglight surrounds and new alloy rims. The interior has come in for a heavier restyle which includes a new dashboard and centre stack. The update suggests Fiat will continue to manufacture this almost decade-old model for a further eighteen months to two years.

There are no changes to the engine range, which remains as follows:

  • 58kW (80hp) 1.4 8v FIRE
  • 84kW (115hp) 1.6 16v e.TorQ
  • 95kW (130hp) 1.8 16v e.TorQ

The 1.6- and 1.8-litre E.torQ engines are derived from the former Tritec family originally established by BMW Group and Chrysler in the 1990s. The 1.8 replaced a unit of the same capacity three years ago. The former 1.8 had been sourced from GM do Brasil.
