A changed world economic climate affected The Timken Company's (NYSE:TKR) third-quarter results. Sales rose and earnings per diluted share, excluding charges for the company's previously announced restructuring and reorganization, were close to a year ago. For the first nine months of 2000, sales and earnings per diluted share, excluding restructuring and reorganization charges, increased from a year ago. This reflects a strong performance in the first half.
