INDIA: Tata Motors may make engines with JLR
Tata Motors may make engines with Jaguar Land Rover.
The move will be a step to achieve the brands' independence from Ford. That automaker currently supplies JLR with engines from both its Dagenham Diesel Centre and Bridgend plants.
Tata Group chairman, Ratan Tata said: “To optimise [synergy] between JLR and Tata Motors in India, [a study] is also under way on a joint engine development program which would have manufacturing facilities both in the UK and India."
The plant in Pune which recently began assembling the Land Rover Freelander may also build other variants and products. Engines for JLR will be manufactured at a plant in Wolverhampton, England, according to the Birmingham Post.
