USA: Subaru set sales record last year
Subaru of America (SOA) is claiming a record year-end total of 185,944 sales for 2001, up eight percent on 2000. The previous sales record of 183,242 was reached as far back as 1986. The US-built Legacy was the top-seller in 2001 with 95,291 units. The Outback sold 70,625 units, up on last year's 68,902, and the redesigned Impreza set a new record at 35,612, up 85 percent on 2000, thanks to the launch of a sporty WRX version (18,060 shifted since March) previously denied to US buyers.
