Initially, Covisint will be used by Shanghai GM and its suppliers to support power train and vehicle assembly operations. Compuware will also provide local technical support and training.

Shanghai General Motors was established in June 1997. The 50-50 joint venture is a partnership between GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC) and makes mainly Buick-badged cars plus engines and transmissions.
