New vehicle sales jumped by close to 42% to 20,924 units in September, from 14,764 units in the same month of last year, according to data released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI).

The data excludes non-affiliated brands, such as Hyundai, Chevrolet and Subaru, which together typically account for 15% of total vehicle sales.

The market continues to be driven by the strong domestic economy, combined with the recent release of new models and aggressive marketing campaigns.

Passenger car sales jumped by 65% over to 8,477 units, while sales of commercial vehicles were up by over 29% at 12,447 units. 

Cumulative nine-month sales increased by over 29% to 169,727 units, from 131,381 units in the same period of last year.
