New vehicle sales in the Philippines rebounded by close to 31% to 14,265 units in May, compared with 10,913 units a year earlier, according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI).

The data covers the association’s 16 members, representing roughly 80-85% of the total market.

The strong growth comes after a weak first quarter, however, bringing cumulative sales for the five month period to 59,177 units – up just slightly compared with 58,876 vehicle sales a year earlier.

Improving supplies from Thailand and new models helped drive volumes higher in May.
