FRANCE: Sacre Bleu! French brands outsold in home market in August
Automotive News Europe reports that foreign carmakers outsold domestic car brands in France in August.
The newspaper notes that it is the first time this has happened in the French market where car buyers are traditionally loyal to home brands.
"It's a little annoying," said Manuel Gomez, chairman of CCFA, the French car manufacturers association, according to the ANE report. "But it's a one-off."
Gomez told ANE that French brands lost sales because their dealers took a traditional long vacation during August while dealers from non-domestic brands were more active during that period.
Foreign brands won 50.5 percent of the 113,843 passenger car sales in France in August with 57,501 sales, 1,159 units more than the Renault and PSA Peugeot-Citroen brands combined.
