The Russian government has rejected proposals to introduce prohibitive import duties on vehicles and parts.

Prime-Tass reported that First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov told reporters that such prohibitive duties could limit consumer rights.

He was speaking to reporters following a meeting of a government economic commission.

The commission considers "wrong all proposals to introduce prohibitive duties on imports of vehicles and certain types of spare parts and we will not work on these proposals at all at the present time," Shuvalov said.
