CANADA: Record market in August
Canadian auto manufacturers have reported record sales numbers for last month, with most companies claiming it had been their best August ever. A total of 148, 412 vehicles were purchased last month, surpassing the previous record of 138,000 set in August 2000. According to Dennis Desrosiers Automotive Consultants Inc., General Motors, sold the most automobiles at 45,365, up by 13.4 per cent from the same month in 2001. DaimlerChrysler sold 20,077, up 2.3 per cent and Ford sold 12,161 up 2.9 per cent. Generous customer incentives, a thriving Canadian economy and a record number of new products available to consumers are behind the boom Mr Desrosiers told just-auto.com.
