JAPAN: Plan calls for more environment-friendly cars
The Japanese government aims to increase the number of environmentally friendly cars on the road to more than 10 million by 2010 from some 600,000 at present, according to a Kyoto News report. An "action plan" announced on Tuesday also calls for the use of 50,000 fuel-cell cars, still a developing technology but expected to become mainstream in the future, by fiscal 2010, the report added.
