News agency AFX reports that Nissan Motor Co Ltd will start rehiring employees it had previously laid off under restructuring, as the company seeks to boost its domestic operations.

The report quotes a Nissan spokesman as saying that rehired Nissan workers will be engaged in areas such as technology and engineering.

The reports adds that rehiring will start from April, and will also include about 500 university graduates. Former employees are expected to figure heavily in the applications.

Speaking at the Nissan Supplier Meeting in Tokyo last week, Carlos Ghosn, President & Chief Executive officer of Nissan, announced that the Nissan Revival Plan (NRP)'s commitments - restructuring - will be achieved by March 2002, one year ahead of schedule.
