Nissan and the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) have begun a trial roadside service to recharge electric vehicle batteries according to Japanese agency Kyodo.

The trial starts today (7 June) to the end of 2011 in the Kanagawa Prefecture using a roadside service vehicle that has a charger developed by Nissan and JAF.

The operation to promote EVs will be in the Kanagawa Prefecture and will use a roadside service vehicle equipped with a charger developed by Nissan and JAF, the manufacturer and Federation said.

The agency quotes Nissan SVP Hitoshi Kawaguchi as saying both bodies will "make efforts to create an environment where customers can drive EVs safely by building a safety net to prevent them being stranded when they run out of battery power."
