Mitsubishi Motors Europe has released first official pictures of the Colt coupe convertible due for launch at next month's Geneva motor show.

Built on the five-door Colt hatchback platform, the new drop-top is a 2+2, not a four-seater like the original CZ2 concept, and its main target is Peugeot's 206 CC. Design & engineering was shared between Mitsubishi Motors & Pininfarina.

Mitsubishi UK's spokeswoman could not supply details of model name or available engines but noted that the 147bhp 1.5 turbo engine (as in recently launched the sporty three-door CZT) is expected to be part of the range.

Colt hatchbacks have 1.1, 1.3- and 1.5-litre normally-aspirated petrol engines and a 1.5 diesel, with manual or automated manual transmissions - these are largely shared with the Smart Forfour - so the product planners had plenty to choose from.
