Mazda Motor Corporation production in Japan increased in 2002 over the previous year for the first time in five years since 1997. Production was up 6.1% to 773,798 units. Car production rose 9% to 716,497 though commercial vehicle output fell 20.5% to 57,301. Models that showed increases over the previous year: RX-7, up 50.8%, MPV, up 18.9%, Premacy/Ixion, up 6.6%, MX-5, up 4.8%, T-Series, up 2.5% and Mazda2/Festiva Mini Wagon, up 2.3%.
