Maruti to boost output at existing plants - report
Maruti Suzuki is expected to increase production at its existing plants in Gurgaon and Manesar to meet demand till the new, Suzuki Motor-owned factory in Gujarat comes on stream by January 2017, a local media report said.
The Indian unit is expected to build 1.45m units in the fiscal year 2015/16 ending 31 March, the Economic Times of India reported. Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava told the paper the automaker is likely to add an additional 100,000 to 200,000 units output next fiscal year.
"If we can't achieve double digit growth by next year, we would grow by 8-9% in [fiscal 2016/17]," Bhargava said.
The report noted there had been talk in Haryana state of Maruti building another plant but Bhargava responded: "I don't think we are creating any more car manufacturing capacity."
He also told ETI the automaker was studying the likely effects of Indian government diesel emissions policy on future demand and whether the company needed to increase its petrol engine capacity.
