Announces Three-Year Title Sponsorship With San Diego Toyota Dealers Association

Knott's Soak City U.S.A., the new name and theme of White Water Canyon water park south of downtown San Diego, opens Saturday with the announcement that it has signed a major title sponsorship agreement with San Diego County Toyota Dealers Association.

According to terms of the three-year partnership, San Diego County's nine Toyota dealers collectively become the title presenter of the San Diego beach-themed water park through the 2001 season. Knott's Soak City U.S.A. signage and collateral materials will incorporate the Toyota logo and Toyota vehicles will be prominently displayed inside the 32-acre park. Joint retail promotional programs between the two entities also will be explored.

"Like Toyota, Knott's Soak City U.S.A. is closely tying itself into the San Diego community," explained Jim Fornaca, treasurer of the San Diego County Dealers Association. "We see it as a nice fit."

Knott's Berry Farm has maintained a sponsorship relationship with Southern California Toyota Dealer Association since 1995.

Knott's Berry Farm owner Cedar Fair, L.P. acquired White Water Canyon in December 1999 and immediately began a redevelopment effort to bring it up to Knott's quality standards. In addition to a new name and theme inspired by the 1950s and 1960s San Diego coast, visitors will find lower admission prices and aggressive, Southern California-wide discount promotions. Coronado Express, an all-new family raft ride, will debut at the park in mid-June.

Instead of operating as a stand-alone attraction, the Chula Vista park will be marketed in tandem with a second Knott's Soak City U.S.A. water park opening June 17 adjacent to Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park.

In all, Knott's Soak City U.S.A. boasts 17 beach-themed tube, body and speed slides; wave pool with sunning beach; lazy river; and kid's activity area with four-story interactive funhouse and mini slides and waterfalls. Following opening weekend May 20-21, the City is open daily May 27-Sept. 4 and weekends Sept. 9-24, 2000.

All-day Knott's Soak City U.S.A. admission is $19.95 for adults and $13.95 for kids 3-11. All ages pay just $11.95 after 3 p.m. Visitors can pre-purchase discounted tickets at any Food 4 Less location in San Diego County May 31-Sept. 4, 2000 for just $14.95 for adults and $11.95 for kids.
