Sales of imported vehicles in Japan rose 1.3% in February from a year ago, with Japanese models made overseas by Toyota marking nearly a four-fold increase.

A Bloomberg News report citing the Japan Automobile Importers Association said 20,853 vehicles were sold last month, compared with 20,595 in February 2003.

Imports from non-Japanese producers fell 5% to 17,788 vehicles in February after a 4.6% slip in January, the report said, noting that German carmakers took more than half of the import car market in February.
