Imperial Auto Industries (IAI) and Italian group Sogefi company Allevard Rejna Autosuspensions have formed a joint venture to manufacture elastic suspension components for the Indian and overseas market.

The 51%/49% Allevard-IAI Suspensions JV initially will manufacture stabiliser and torsion bars for passenger cars and utility vehicles, critical parts of the suspension system.

“We have already commenced production at our existing Pune plant. The new plant for the JV is under construction at Chaken, to be operational by mid 2011,” said Aman Mehatani, director of the newly formed JV.

The venture initially will focus on the growing Indian automobile market. “Initially, focus will be on Indian OEMs and we are planning to tap the international market later,” he added. Among the JV’s major clients are Tata Motors and Fiat and it plans to add other OEMs as well.

Founded in 1969, IAI is a manufacturer and exporter of fluid transmission products with manufacturing at 15 locations in India. Italy based Sogefi group specialises in filter and flexible suspension components.
