CHINA: Honda to sell hybrids to China by 2012
Honda will introduce two hybrid models to the Chinese market by 2012, while luxury division Acura will produce its first version of the type within the next three years.
Specifically, the China hybrid initiative will see Honda introduce the Insight and CR-Z brands, as well as start sales of its utility vehicle Crosstour.
The crossover vehicle will be produced by Guangqi Honda with sales slated to start at the end of this year.
Speaking at the Beijing Auto Show, Honda president and CEO Takanobu Ito said: "Last year, Honda's sales achieved an all-time record of 580,000 units in China."
"Honda will continue its efforts to become the 'automaker closest to customers' in China, by introducing environmentally-responsible models and through further collaboration with its partners, Guangzhou Automobile and Dongfeng Motor."
Honda is also exhibiting a concept model of the LI NIAN brand, Guangqi Honda's proprietary automobile brand.
The mass-production model of the concept car will be introduced at the Guangzhou Motor Show, scheduled at the end of this year.
Dongfeng Honda is also to start its own model. This will result in both Guangqi Honda and Dongfeng Honda having original brands.
