GM is preparing to introduce its Chevrolet Volt electric car in Thailand as early as 2011.

The electric car is symbolic of the future of GM, said Khanchit Chaisupho, director for Asean public policy and government relations, reported in the Bangkok Post.

The Volt is due to go on sale in the United States in 2010.

The retail price of the Volt in Thailand, based on the current import duty structure, would be nearly three million baht a unit, said Mr Khanchit.

The Thai Board of Investment (BoI) is offering tax holidays for alternative fuel car production locally, with excise tax rates at a low 10%, the newspaper said.
