USA: GM shuts Michigan plant for two extra weeks
General Motors plans to stop production at the company's assembly plant in Orion Township, Michigan, for two extra weeks from today, June 23, The Car Connection (TCC) website reported. GM spokesman Dan Flores told TCC that the vehicle maker plans to idle about 1,500 hourly workers today for four weeks - until July 21 - to reduce inventories of vehicles such as the Pontiac Bonneville, Buick Park Avenue and Buick LeSabre.
