General Motors and Uzavtoprom plan to set up a joint auto transmission production venture in Uzbekistan in 2012, a source in the local government has told Prime Tass news agency.

Investments in the project, which could go ahead within the next four years, are estimated at US$310m, the source added.

Separately Zavolzhsky Motor Plant, a unit of Russian carmaker Sollers, is to supply components to Ford plants in Brazil, China, and Thailand.

ZMZ said that its products have been trialled in the plants over the past few months but gave no details on volumes.

Last year ZMZ supplied 110,000 component parts to Ford plants, with 30,000 units delivered to the carmaker’s factories in Europe.
