GM is satisfied with its cooperation with Fiat and has no plans to part ways with the Italian carmaker, GM Chairman Rick Wagoner told a Swiss newspaper.

"I think we have a very good understanding with the Fiat people. I really don't know where these rumours about a split are coming from," he said in an interview with Finanz und Wirtschaft published on Wednesday.

"We are very satisfied with developments in the joint ventures with Fiat in the areas of purchasing and drive trains," Wagoner said, adding progress in these fields boosted GM's competitiveness in Europe. The cooperation is also set to include a new generation of small cars and a GM platform for mid-sized autos, he noted.
