US: Ford to manufacture Lincoln Continental at Flat Rock
2015 Mustang on the line at Flat Rock
Ford plans to manufacture the redesigned Lincoln Continental at its Flat Rock plant in Michigan, head of global manufacturing John Fleming said.
The sedan should launch in the US in 2016, the Detroit Free Press reported. Ford also makes the Mustang and Fusion [aka Mondeo elsewhere] at the plant.
Akshay Anand, analyst for Kelley Blue Book, said, "The Flat Rock Assembly Plant will now produce three important vehicles for Ford. With many products shifting production outside the United States, it's good to see Ford committed to keeping its flagship vehicle stateside. If the production version of the Continental has many of the features we saw in the concept, consumers will definitely take notice, both in the United States and areas such as China."
Flat Rock was once a joint venture with Mazda and produced vehicles such as the Probe and 626 for both brands.
