Media reports in India say that Ford is planning to add 1,200 people in the next year in its facilities in Chennai and Coimbatore.

The Hindu said that Ford Motor Company, Asia Pacific and Africa president Joe Hinrichs and Ford India’s president and Managing Director Michael Boneham and Ford Business Service, Executive Director, Joginder Singh, called on Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday and told her that their organisation, which was currently employing about 5,200 people in India, was in the process of expanding its operations in Coimbatore and Chennai in the next year. A further 1,200 positions are planned to be added as part of the expansion.

Ford will roll out its first India-made compact Sports Utility Vehicle 'Ecosport' early next year from its manufacturing facility near Chennai.

Ford in India manufactures and distributes automobiles and engines from its manufacturing facility at Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai. The company's models include the hatcback Figo, mid-size sedan Ford Classic, premium SUV Endeavour and premium sedan global Fiesta.
