INDIA: Ford ramp up held back by parts shortage
Ford India is being held back from increasing capacity at its Chennai plant because of a shortage of parts from suppliers.
President and managing director, Michael Boneham told reporters that the company is looking to start a second shift at Chennai but parts makers have been unable to keep up with demand.
He added: “We have already reached current capacity of 140,000 units at the plant but it is difficult to give a time for our ramp up. We can't increase capacity unless the parts constraints ease."
Ford assembles the entry-level Ikon sedan, the Fiesta sedan and the Endeavour sport-utility vehicle at Chennai. It plans to introduce eight models in India by 2015.
